Special Agent Dave Kujan was an United States Customs Service special agent who'd partake in the investigation of a shootout on the Tanager between three criminals and two different mobsters in San Pedro Bay. Flying from New York City to San Pedro, Los Angeles, Special Agent Kujan went to interrogate one of the two survivors, Roger "Verbal" Kint, at the San Pedro Police Department, to learn about the massacre. Dave is being told that he, along with four other criminals, Dean Keaton, Michael McManus, Fred Fenster, and Todd Hockney, that all five of them committed heists to get back at the police by robbing a group of corrupt cops who transported smugglers in a police convoy.
When Kujan heard about Keyser Söze from FBI agent, Jack Baer, Dave demanded Verbal who he is. Verbal told that he was an urban legend, a myth among police and criminals alike, even about his lawyer, Mr. Kobayashi. Upon revealing Söze set up them up between the Hungarian and Argentinian mobsters, Kujan claims that the Argentinians were selling Marquez to Söze's Hungarian rivals and Keaton used the heist as a distraction to let him kill Marquez, concluding Keaton must be Söze.
Upon Verbal's bail being posted, Kujan realized that he fabricated the entire story from strung-together details culled from a crowded bulletin board. Realizing Verbal was Söze, Special Agent Kujan went after him only it was too late when he drove by his driver, who happens to be Mr. Kobayashi.
Kujan soon revealed to the agency and police who Keyser Söze was but none of them couldn't find him.
By of March 1, 2003, when the United States Customs Service combined with the Inspections Program of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Plant Protection and Quarantine from USDA, and the Border Patrol of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Kujan became special agent of the United States Customs and Border Protection.
